We see Israel as the canary in the coalmine, the one Western democracy living on very edge of the conflict between the free West and Islamic totalitarianism. As a secular party our position is not based on religious affiliation, but on the understanding of the Islamic prescriptions for the treatment of non-Muslims, the historic Arab/Islamic participation in the Holocaust, the wholesale displacement of Jews from their homelands across the whole MENA region post 1946, as well as the defence of common Western values and human rights.
For sections of the Australian Labor Party to now abandon these principles and its own history of solidarity with Israel and the Jewish people, to openly side with Hamas and PLO/PA terrorists, Arab nationalists and feudal theocrats, is extremely disturbing. The ALP is about to discard some of the basic values that have united the West across all party platforms.
The history of this conflict is long and complex and not easily understood. We recommend you read ‘This Land is my Land’ by Eli Herz for a brief introduction to the historical facts and geopolitical context. It is available to download in pdf format or to order in hard copy from the Q Shop

The word 'FATAH' (the late Yasser Arafat's faction of the PLO) is a reverse acronym of the Arabic Harekat at-Tahrir al-Wataniyyeh al-Falastiniyyeh, meaning "conquest by means of jihad [Islamic holy war]." The Fatah flag features a grenade with crossed rifles superimposed on the map of Israel. This emphasizes the dedication of FATAH, along with the other "liberation" groups, to the "armed struggle" against Israel, which is a euphemism for terrorism against civilians. Jihad takes many forms and may alter between periods of truce and diplomacy, subtle threats and sabotage to outright violence and terror, depending on the strength of forces on each side.
